New Horizons RV Staff
Phil Brokenicky, President & CEO
Phil Brokenicky has been a Kansas resident his entire life. His early years were spent in the small town of Blue Rapids where he received his education. This education was not just in school, but working in his father’s family-owned business. Phil attributes many of his business principles to how his father treated every customer who walked into their family’s hardware store. His work in the hardware store was unpaid, so in order to have spending money he worked for farmers in the area carrying hay bales and irrigation pipe for the wage of $1.25 per hour. He attributes his understanding of the value of a dollar to this real-life experience.
Phil’s formal education continued at Kansas State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree as well as his MBA. He is proud of the fact that he graduated as the outstanding business graduate and the fact that he and his wife Karen put themselves through school.
His first career was in banking where he spent 20 years and ultimately achieved the position of president of a community bank and oversaw its prosperity and eventual growth into one of the leading banks in Northeast Kansas.
When the regulatory environment of banking became stifling in the early 1990s he was recruited and accepted a job as CFO of a $250 million distribution company. He spent 10 years as CFO until a friend of his heard that New Horizons RV Corporation was for sale. Phil was 52 years old when he heard of this opportunity and, at first, denied himself the possibility of entertaining such a business venture. He felt he was making too much money in a secure job and was too old to take on the debt to acquire a business. Nonetheless, after several weeks of denial, he agreed to look at the company and was hooked. Four months later, he owned the company. He could see the potential of New Horizons and set out to make it the best RV company in America.
Along the way Phil has been blessed with a terrific partner in his wife, Karen, to whom he has been married for 44 years. They have three children and six grandchildren. All three of their children have worked for the company. He is proud of his family and says next to his faith, his family is the most important thing in his life. With the downturn of the economy he has relied upon both faith and family to see him through the difficult times in the RV industry.
During the recession period, New Horizons used the time to develop and build an entirely new model RV called the Majestic. Brokenicky makes the statement, “While I am not an artist, the Majestic design became my canvas. I incorporated everything into it that I heard RVers wanted in a fifth wheel.”
As a true entrepreneur and visionary, Phil continues to be the driving force behind new innovations in order to keep New Horizons at the cutting edge of luxury fifth wheel production.
Phil has served in numerous civic and philanthropic capacities. He has chaired the United Way of Riley County and the Manhattan Arts Center Board of Directors. He has also served on the Executive Committee of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Directors of UMB Bank, as well as serving as a ruling elder of two local churches.
Drew has extensive knowledge on the inner workings of a New Horizons Fifth Wheel. His experience as the company’s production manager aids the custom designing process with his customers. Working with Drew, you are working with family, and will get the personal touch that you deserve.
Cole is the youngest of Karen and Phil’s 3 children. He has learned the business quickly and from the bottom-up. He worked summers in the factory while going to Kansas State University (where he played football), so brings a perspective of what makes quality in the infrastructure of the New Horizons RV.
Ashley comes to New Horizons with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and 8 years of office management and accounting experience. She’s doing a little bit of everything from accounts payable, receivable & payroll and she will make sure all your paper work is in order when you come to pick up your new RV.
Ken has been with New Horizons for 18 years. He has served as Production Mgr., Purchasing Mgr, and Sales. Ken will schedule your appointments for service and also assist you when you need warranty work done.
